Curly hair is GORGEOUS! Seriously, if you have curly hair we know you’ve probably spent many mornings feeling frustrated by it, but at the end of the day the texture of curly hair is incredible. Of course, the downside of curly hair can often come during the summer season. Hot, humid weather doesn’t always scream curly hair’s BFF-does it? But it really doesn’t have to be as frustrating as you may feel like it’s been throughout most of your life. We’ve recently discovered worthwhile steps for keeping the perfect summer curl.

Make Moisture Your Best Friend
The biggest struggle for curly haired ladies during the summer is the frizz factor. (Did your eyes roll there?) Frizz tends to be one of the biggest factors that prevents curls from getting that perfect look. Truthfully, a lot of frizz occurs when hair doesn’t have enough moisture. That being said, when your hair does have enough moisture it’s able to lay flatter and tends to be much more manageable/healthier looking which helps tremendously to achieve those perfect summer curls. You already know about using a great quality conditioning product when you wash your hair, but to really ensure that you have enough moisture spritzing your hair with some leave-in conditioner before you begin styling your curls helps to lock in some extra moisture and prevent that frizz from occurring. In addition to all of that, spritz your hair with some heat protectant product before applying any heat. This will help avoid any damage and keep moisture locked in even more.

Diffuse Your Hair Dry
Drying your hair is a necessary step in styling your curls, but it’s also where a lot of damage, frizz and curl-issues can happen. Instead of using a traditional hair dryer we recommend sticking with a diffuser attachment to add to your hair dryer. Diffusers are great because they help to maintain the natural shape of your curls and tend to be much less harsh on the curls. Leave the brush alone and just use the diffuser, gently on your hair when drying.

Touch Up’s
Using a curling iron to touch up any spots that may not be quite right after drying is the best way to create a more cohesively curled hair look. The key here is to use a curling iron that matches the size of your natural curls. After your hair is dry, use the curling iron to touch up any areas that may need some sprucing, when using the curling iron don’t hold the iron on your hair strands for too long, though.

Finish With an Anti-Humidity Hold
The great thing about all the hair care options we have today, is there are plenty of formulas to choose from. The best way to keep your curls perfect throughout the day (or night) is to finish your hair style by spraying some hair spray (lightly) with an anti-humidity hair spray. This helps to give your hair even more protection from the humidity and keep the hairstyle intact.
