So often when we think of taking care of our hair, we’re focused on the hair itself.  It’s a natural thought, but what you may not realize is that in order to have overall healthy hair we also need to make sure that we’re focusing on taking care of our scalp, and the roots of our hair.  Since this isn’t something that we often hear about, and not many people are talking about it, we thought it was time that we share the importance of healthy roots – so you can understand how to truly get overall healthy hair for yourself from this point on.

Ok, so here’s the truth, our hair starts at the roots (also known as the follicle, and is in the scalp area).  Think of your hair like a plant, if the seeds and roots don’t grow healthy and functionally the plant you get at the top isn’t going to be as robust and full as you wanted.  The same principle applies to your hair.  When our roots aren’t healthy, our hair is greatly impacted and this is where you may begin to experience some struggles in your hair’s health and appearance.  There are many different reasons why you may be experiencing roots that aren’t as healthy as they need to be, but in order to have that overall healthy and gorgeous hair you so badly want you’re going to need to spend more time focusing on getting the roots of your hair healthy.

Since our roots are where our hair grows from, spending more time getting that part of your hair healthy is going to help ensure that the growth of your hair is healthier.  So you may be wondering how exactly you can begin to focus on the importance of healthy roots and getting your roots in a healthier place, right?  Well, great question!  The first step is to begin to focus on your scalp and roots, by making sure that you’re giving them the nutrients they need to function properly.  Many experts suggest making sure that your diet is consisting of healthy nutrients and vitamins by eating a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and lean proteins as well as incorporating supplements like biotin and other vitamins to give your hair and scalp that extra boost.

In addition to helping your roots from the INSIDE, there are some things you can do externally to make sure you’re maintaining a healthy scalp and root.  Ensure that when you’re washing your hair, you’re massaging your scalp thoroughly and really cleaning it (don’t forget to ensure that you’re REALLY getting all the hair care product out of your scalp and roots).  In addition, utilizing hydrating and vitamin-enriched scalp masks can be really beneficial in this area.  Finally, make sure that you’re not doing anything that can put additional stress on your scalp and roots.  This means, cutting back on using a lot of harsh chemicals like hair dyes, and other chemical treatments to the hair.
