What To Expect From A Consultation With Your Stylist
Changing up your hair style can be intimidating at times. Whether you’re interested in changing the color, cut or both having solid trust in your stylist is essential. Scheduling a consultation with your stylist is a great way to shop around for the right stylist for you, and build up that trust you want to have. So often we hear (and talk) about booking a consultation with a stylist, but do you even know what to expect from a consultation with your stylist? You’ve probably had consultations with doctors and those types of service providers but understanding what you should expect during a hair consultation can help you feel a bit more prepared for the experience.
The consultation experience with your stylist is a great way for both of you to get to know one another. Just like you’re going in hopes to learn more about your stylist, your stylist uses this time as an opportunity to get to know you, your hair goals, and more about your hair type/texture. The first thing you should naturally expect to happen during a consultation with your stylist is a lot of questions to be asked about your hair. Like we said, this is a chance for your stylist to get to know you and your hair so a qualified stylist is going to ask as many questions about you and your hair as they feel they need.
Here’s the thing…when heading into a consultation with your stylist it’s important to be as honest as possible. There’s no benefit in lying here, so just tell the truth. Even if you’re not proud to admit certain hair habits you have (or don’t have), the real answers are where your stylist is going to obtain the best information about you and your hair so they’re able to cater your experience accordingly.
We like to think about a hair consultation much like a doctor appointment. Hair stylists are kind of like hair doctors, after all. You should expect to share any past hair treatments you’ve done to your hair and that includes everything from relaxers to perms and everything in between. This information gives your stylist a background on anything you’ve done with your hair in the past, which can have an impact on your hair at this point in your life. In other words, expect to give some background and be honest about it! No shame!
In addition to all of the concepts mentioned above, expect your stylist to ask about what your hair goals and ideas are. Providing pictures and information about why you’re heading into the salon, the look you want to achieve and really what you’re hoping to get from the experience is going to help them understand how they need to move forward with working with you.
